Abstract
This bachelor thesis focuses on the design and implementation of a transparent network bridge at the data link layer of the OSI model, utilizing two ESP32 microcontrollers interconnected via an Ethernet cable. The primary objective was to develop a functional system for extending Wi-Fi connectivity to areas with insufficient signal coverage while maintaining full network transparency for connected devices. The thesis describes in detail the implementation of MAC address rewriting (MAC spoofing) and DHCP traffic inspection, which are essential for overcoming the limitations of standard Wi-Fi interfaces. The project also includes a centralized web-based configuration interface and the development of a proprietary configuration protocol operating directly at the data link layer, enabling the management and synchronization of settings between modules without the need for IP addressing. The resulting solution achieves a real-world data throughput exceeding 15 Mbit/s.
