Abstract

The presented bachelor thesis deals with the issue of weapon barrel production. The theoretical part describes the course of production of weapon barrels by the method of rotary cold forging, while there is more detailed description of the individual steps of barrel production, and the course of rotary forging itself and the possible occurrence of defects. Subsequently, the surface treatment of weapon barrels through nitriding process is described. In the experimental part, the defects caused by forging and the ways in which they can be eliminated are examined in detail. Furthermore, nitride layers which were made by three different methods are analyzed on nitrided barrels and parameters such as their homogeneity, thickness and overall course of nitriding are evaluated. Finally, the three methods of nitriding are compared with each other.
