Abstract

THE FUTURE OF THE EURO The European integration process has undergone several stages of economic integration since the end of the World War II. Now the European Union is building economic and monetary union. This effort culminated in the adoption of a common currency - the euro. Euro as their new currency was adopted by 11 members of the European Union in 1999. Euro area has 16 members now, as the last state joined Slovakia in the last year,. The first part of thesis is devoted to the history of monetary integration in Europe after the Second World War. The next part of thesis describes the euro as a world currency and the last part is devoted to opportunities and risks of the euro in the light of the global financial crisis. Target of this thesis is to analyze ten years of the euro and what successes have been achieved or not. The main objective is to assess the possible future of euro area.
