Abstract
Agricultural land makes up 54 % of the area of the Czech Republic, ploughing 74 %. The CR is referred to as the roof of Europe and the changes in agricultural practise can significantly influence the quality of waters in rivers draining off the area of the country. Water exceedingly biased by nitrates was analyzed to cover 40 % of agriculturally utilized land of the CR. The consumption of mineral fertilizers and pesticides participates largely in polluting the water reserves. Agriculture produces food, develops and will develop. Agricultural activities destroy nature and still deteriorates the environment.
