Abstract
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs´) have undoubtedly positive impact on the economy of each country. Benefits arising from the size, on the other hand, are reduced by negative effects. The governments try to enhance SMEs´ role for the major effect on the economy.
Small and medium-sized enterprises create alliances, associations, networks or clusters, for to obtain contracts, better use of production capacity, spreading the cost of marketing, etc. The highest stage of networking is chaining, such as by cluster for joint development and research. The cost of the innovation process significantly burden small firms than large firms.
State support to small and medium-sized enterprises is directed, i. a., the cluster activities. The agency CzechInvest was grandee-aid formation of clusters, also supported the so-called „joint projects“. Projects may be submitted jointly, thus simplifying the bureaucratic agenda and enterprises can more easily manage the administrative burden associated with support. This allows companies to better focus on the implementation of innovative projects. The clusters generally operate small and medium-sized companies, but also large companies. Common activities bring positive and negative relationships and effects.
The PhD work will be examined cooperation between small, medium and large companies associated in clusters and influence on their innovation potential. Work will be divided into several phases. The theses as part of the first phase has already screened on secondary data. It was defined the problem, terms and to ensure the objectives of the proposed research question:
What influence has the cooperation of small, medium and large companies associated in clusters on the innovative potential of small and medium-sized enterprises?
Furthermore, the aims of work resulting from the research questions:
- To identify the influence of cooperation between small, medium and large companies associated in clusters on technical and non-technical innovations
- To analyze the influence of cooperation between firms and universities to innovation.
- To identify factors most interacting spillover effects in clusters.
Formulation of research questions and deeper specification of objectives was done by the analysis of professional resources and it has been clarified in discussions with managers of the clusters.
The next phase focuses on obtaining information through questionnaires with managers of companies associated in clusters. Attention will be given over to the links and relationships of small, respectively medium and large firms in clusters. The third phase should provide answers to research questions by the induction analysis.
The issue of the doctoral thesis should be useful to the formation of support for small and medium-sized enterprises in the clusters, which is organized by CzechInvest agency. The results should also help to managers of clusters. The answer of research questions will be used to learning objectives in the course of Management of small and medium businesses, where attention is paid to inter alia, the advantages and disadvantages of SMEs.
