Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to clarify the problems of leaching of granite in connection with of radioactive waste disposal. The work is divided into four parts – introduction, literary review, experimental part and conclusion. Literary review contains basic information about radioactive waste, its division, it also describes temporary storage and deep geological repositories and it shows possibilities of re-using of radioactive waste. The work focuses on deep geological repositories located in granite formations and on countries, which are planing this deep geological repositories. Such countries as the Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland or Japan can be counted in. In literary review is described the theory of leaching and briefly summarized the studies of leaching of granite executed so far. Experimental part describes the experiment of leaching of the „Liberec granite“ – laboratory devices, samples, leaching process and methods of elements analysis. This thesis contains evaluation of gathered data and especially deals with a study of kinetics of leaching of major elements (Si, K, Na and Ca) contained in granite´s minerals from short-term laboratory experiments.
