Abstract
The bachelor thesis deals with the analysis and modeling of bone structures from X-ray image data. The theoretical part presents the issue and knowledge about X-rays and medical devices generating X-rays, in order to non-invasively create images of body structures. It also discusses methods of image processing in terms of detection, extraction and analysis of areas of interest. The practical part deals with the design of an interactive application for automatic detection and extraction of bone structures from X-ray images and subsequently modeling their density. For this purpose, the chosen algorithm is an active contour. The resulting application allows a user to import an X-ray image, detect and extract the entire bone structure or a certain part of it, and finally export the results of its density to a user-selected directory. 20 X-ray images, representing different bone structures, are used in the application with different active contour settings, with the intent of finding the most accurate segmentation.
