Abstract
The submitted work deals with a possibility and variant solution regarding the service life extension of Jan Šverma’s open-cast mine beyond 2012; 2012 is determined as the final year and loose coal reserves will be mined out of the given locality. The first part deals with the history of Jan Šverma’s open-cast mine, geology, structural geology of North Bohemian lignite field and with mining methods in the given locality in 2009 – 2012. Other parts deal with variants of accessing other coal reserves while using two various technologies. The final part deals with a comparison and selection of suitable variant and an economic evaluation of such variant.
