Abstract
Measures related to the pandemic hit Severočeské doly a.s. like all sectors. Of course, there had to be a great deal of emphasis on energy in this regard, given its differences or peculiarities. Severočeské doly a.s. are part of the critical infrastructure of the state and must be 100 % ready to supply coal whenever needed, so as not to cause
a power or heat failure. In the context of the pandemic, electricity consumption decreased and, due to the European system of preference for renewable sources, the traditional power plants of the CEZ Group were particularly affected. Nevertheless, Severočeské doly a.s. had to be ready to fill the coal supply 24 hours a day. In cooperation with CEZ Group power plants, they covered the lack of energy, especially at peak times, which renewables cannot cover, or in cases where this was necessary for the stability of the network. Severočeské doly a.s. produced even at very low outputs and the impact on their economy was therefore very significant. However, they are preparing for the fact that similar periods with low production output will not be unique in the future. Therefore, the company's business and production strategy is now being optimised and it is trying to respond operationally to the development of the situation with the global pandemic.
