Abstract
This master’s thesis deals with the use of home compost to improve the properties of arable soil and with the assessment of its effect on plant growth and development under the conditions of a pot experiment. The theoretical part defines the legislative and normative framework of composting and summarizes the importance of organic matter for soil fertility. The practical part evaluates the effect of two types of home compost, designated as KO-01 and KO-02, applied in different volumetric proportions to growing substrates prepared from topsoil. The experiment monitored plant growth parameters, phenological development according to the Zadoks scale, soil reaction (pH), and temperature conditions. Under the conditions of the conducted experiment, a more favourable response was recorded in the variants with compost KO-01, especially at its higher proportion in the substrate. Compost KO-02 showed lower immediate effectiveness, probably in connection with slower nutrient release. The thesis confirms the importance of home compost quality for its agronomic use.
