Abstract

This thesis deals with employment and unemployment among the young population aged 15-24 in the Czech Republic and the European Union. The main objective of this study is to evaluate promotion of employment of youth in the Czech Republic, focusing on the Moravian-Silesian Region. The work is divided into three separate chapters. The first chapter includes a theoretical basis for employment, unemployment. Consequently, various types of unemployment and its measurement are described. This chapter includes also the Czech labour market and risk groups that might emerge at this market. The second chapter deals with the development of unemployment in the Czech Republic since accession to the European Union. Then there is a comparison of trends in employment and unemployment in the Czech Republic by age criteria and by education level in the 2007-2014. Subsequently, the chapter presents the European labour market and youth unemployment in the Czech Republic and the EU, including the graduates unemployment. The final chapter describes various programs and projects of the European Union which should contribute to promoting the employment of young population. These include “Czech Republic Youth Guarantee Program” and “Internships for Young Job Seekers.” Moravian-Silesian region is also involved in activities to reduce youth unemployment through “Traineeships for young people up to 30 years in Moravian-Silesian region.” Professional trainee programs are widely used by young people and in the end of their implementation, they are expected to be used by young people continuously.
