Abstract

This thesis deals with the potencial of low-cost biosorbent for the removal of toxic metals from aqueous matrix. Adsorption of zinc using brown - rot fungi Fomitopsis pinicola from aqueous solution was investigated using batch (dosing) mechanism. An adsorption kinetics was studied in the experimental part of this work, while two activating agent - hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were used, both at a concentration of 1,00 mol l-1 and activation time for 30 minutes. There was also investigated the dependence of biosorption process on pH value, temperature, concentration of sorbent and exposure time. In the study of adsorption equilibrium was used Langmuir and Freundlich model to describe sorption isotherms. The Langmuier model to describe the equilibrium data fits better than the Freundlich model in this case. The maximize uptake of zinc (q20 = 4,55 mg g-1) was 91 % while optimal conditions were used. To remove Zn(II) from aqueous solution is the best to use chemically modified biosorbent (1,00 mol l-1 NaOH/30 min), with the grain-size fraction <0,5 mm, with an optimal pH value 6,0.
