Abstract
The object of this diploma thesis called “The Euro in the Czech Republic” is an overall evaluation of economic preparedness of the Czech Republic to an admission of the Euro, not only from a view of the Maastricht Convergence Criteria, but also from a view of economic alignment. Regarding aforesaid, the initial chapters of this thesis deal firstly with rough characteristics of the European integration’s evolution, focused then more in detail on monetary integration. A theoretical ground of establishment and function of the European Monetary Union, presented by a theory of the Optimal Currency Area, is also not omitted. This is followed by more practically orientated chapters, which are the key-part of this thesis and which task is to describe critically preparedness of the Czech Republic for an accession to the Euro-area. At the end of the thesis author presents short excursion to course of administrative and institutional preparations for entry into the European Monetary Union, together with a scenario and principles of possible future admission of the Euro by the Czech Republic.
