Abstract

My diploma thesis is focused on inspections of electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres. In the introduction, classification of hazardous areas is presented. Furthermore, explosive atmosphere formation and ignition phenomena are described. In the following chapters, legislature and standards related to the subject of electrical equipment inspections in explosive atmospheres are reviewed. Engineering inspector certification requirements are presented and, additionally, responsibilities of both the inspectors and operators of electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres are analyzed. Grades of the inspections and corresponding inspection procedures are discussed. In the conclusion, the most common failures and defects typically occurring at electrical installations in explosive atmospheres that pose hazard to health, life and property are summarized.
