Abstract

This bachelor thesis focuses on the preparation of titanium dioxide thin films and their characterization. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part summarizes properties of titanium dioxide, its photocatalytic effect and applications. Within the theoretical part various methods of preparation of thin films are explained. The attention is also focused on the explanation of principles of selected methods (atomic force microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy) for the characterization of thin layers and opportunities of thin films doping. The practical part focuses on the preparation of thin films of titanium dioxide, silver doped titanium dioxide and their characterization. The films were prepared by three different sol-gel techniques using titanium (IV) isopropoxide as a precursor of titanium. Thin films were deposited on glass substrate by using dip-coating method. Besides the visual evaluation of appearance, the morphological, optical and photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide thin films were investigated. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to evaluate the influence of three different sol-gel preparation techniques of thin layers, the influence of different number of layers and the effect of doping on the investigated properties of prepared thin films.
