Abstract
This diploma thesis focuses on the thermographic detection of individuals wearing protective
and rescue clothing. The theoretical part is dedicated to the physical principles of thermography
and to the characterization of materials used in protective and rescue garments with respect to
their thermal properties. The aim of the practical part is to evaluate the influence of protective
and rescue clothing on the thermal image of a human subject captured by a thermal camera and
to assess how individual clothing layers and environmental conditions affect human
detectability in the infrared spectrum. The practical part includes experimental measurements
using a thermal camera under various conditions and a subsequent evaluation of the influence
of materials and ambient conditions on the quality and interpretation of thermal images.
