Abstract
Timber construction is becoming an increasingly popular trend, despite its centuries-long history. However, myths surrounding its applicability in modern construction still persist, even as contemporary demands emphasize building taller, larger, faster, and more cost-effectively.
The aim of this project is to present an alternative structural approach to the design of a multi-story timber public building, specifically an art gallery with an integrated café, located near the city center. The design utilizes glued laminated timber (GLT) and cross-laminated timber (CLT) in combination with a reinforced concrete core. The primary focus is on the anchoring of individual skeletal construction elements and their connection to the stabilizing core, ensuring greater structural stability and construction efficiency. The project provides design documentation with technical implementation details and introduces an alternative solution to traditional architectural and engineering practices in the Czech and Slovak contexts.
