Abstract

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate the global perspectives of the world from the point of view of its growth limits based on assumptions on which the concept of sustainable development is based. Methodological work is based on the concept of sustainable development, descriptive analysis based on selected indicators of this concept is used to evaluate global perspectives. The theoretical part of this thesis is focused on the comparison of individual approaches to the issue of sustainable development, including its definition. Another part of this thesis deals with sustainable development in empirical literature. The research includes studies that produced a Growth Limit report or a follow-up revised Turner’s study. Next is discussed the environmental Kuznets’s curve or a significant concept of the so-called planetary boundaries. The practical part of the thesis, together with the stated aim of the thesis, evaluates the global perspectives in the context of growth limits. Assessment is performed based on selected indicators such as Indicators of Environmental Footprint, Biological Capacity, Human Development Index or Living Planet Index. The chapter deals with the impact of the growing population on Earth's ecosystems and their consequences, when the world took an Anthropocene and the rapid use of natural resources.
