Abstract

The presented dissertation is devoted to the characteristics and treatment of bearing steels. The thesis describes the most widely used bearing steel 100Cr6 as well as other specific types of bearing steels for aerospace and other demanding conditions. The first part is devoted to description of base material in terms of chemical composition, microstructural and macrostructural parameters. The main attention is paid to describing the bearing steel 100Cr6. The following are introduced bearing steels for the aerospace industry M50 and M50NiL, stainless bearing steels 440C, 440N-DUR, Cronidur30 and new types of bearing steels CCS-42L, VIM CRU 60 and VIM CRU 80. Briefly discussed are special bearing steels for cryogenic applications and bearing steels produced by powder metallurgy. The other part of dissertation is paid to the description of bearing steel heat treatment which significantly affects final material properties of the bearing part. The experimental part of the thesis describes hardening process changes of bearing steel 100Cr6 parts, its evaluation and influence on the material properties of the bearing parts.
