Abstract
This thesis focuses on the role of the European Union in the fight against corruption in selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The aim of the thesis is to assess the level of corruption in three selected countries - the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine - based on the analysis of relevant corruption indicators. The work is divided into three main parts. The first part of the thesis focuses on the definitions, types, causes and consequences of corruption, while the second part analyses the history and development of EU anti-corruption policy, the legal framework, institutional mechanisms and examples of best practices in the fight against corruption within the EU. The main core of the thesis is the third part, which is devoted to a detailed analysis of the situation in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine. Here, a comparison of selected indicators of the level of corruption, an analysis of the causes and factors influencing corruption, and proposed measures to combat corruption in these countries are presented.
