Abstract

This thesis focuses on the use of waste foundry sand as a substitute for natural aggregate in the construction industry. The reason is growing problems with mining and dwindling reserves of natural raw materials. The use of recycled materials, including foundry sand, offers, due to its properties, the possibility of partial replacement of natural aggregates in concrete. The practical part compares different levels of substitution of natural sand with foundry sand and evaluates the effect of its purification using high temperatures on concrete properties. The aim of the work is to assess the suitability of using foundry sand in its raw and purified state and to analyze its effect on the physical and durability properties of concrete.
