The diploma thesis deals with the issue of regional disparities in the Benelux countries. Although the European Union is one of the most developed part of the world, there are significant differences among regions. The EU Cohesion policy aims to reduce the regional disparities.
The main objective of this thesis is to compare and evaluate the disparities among NUTS 2 regions in the Benelux countries over the period 2001-2015 using the selected mathematical and statistical methods. The comparison and evaluation of regional disparities among 24 NUTS 2 regions in the Benelux countries 15 selected economic, social and territorial indicators were used.
Based on the analysis of regional disparities, there is a gradual reduction of regional disparities in the Benelux countries. Significant differences exist between Dutch regions on the one hand and the Belgian and Luxembourg regions on the other hand.
