Determinanty výkonnosti evropských fotbalových soutěží

Abstract

This thesis is focused on sports-economic determinants that have an influence on the sports performance of professional European football competitions. The aim of the thesis is to determine, using econometric analysis, whether selected determinants (foreign players, market value of teams, number of spectators, revenue from player purchases, player purchase expenses and GDP) influence the sports performance of European football competitions, which was determined by the UEFA national coefficient. For the purpose of this thesis, the estimation method of the regression model with fixed effects was chosen, for the reason that panel data for the 30 most powerful European football competitions in the years 2000-2020 were used. In conclusion, it was found that 5 out of 6 selected determinants really affect the size of the national coefficients of European football leagues.
