Abstract

In the thesis I focus on the ways in which water supplies are obtained from public water systems. In the opening part I compare different ways in which water supplies are used in the Czech Republic, I investigate their technical state, the rate of water-loss and the possibilities of renewal and upgrade of tools for water distribution. In the following part of my thesis I evaluate the state of water hydrants from the preventive and repressive point of view. I look into the causes of external hydrant‘s defects and I statistically evaluate these causes. I also evaluate the extent into which fire rescue team and municipalities are aware of the current state of their hydrants. I also investigate what their legal powers to obtain water supplies are. In the last part of my thesis I propose some ways to improve the state of hydrants for the future. The aim of my thesis is to evaluate the current state of public water supplies used by fire rescue teams for effective fire extinguishing.
