Abstract
The bachelor thesis addresses the introduction to the use of fiber optic sensors based on light interference for non-invasive monitoring of vital functions of the human body. The introductory part of the thesis describes the theoretical assumptions of the function of optical fibers and their possibilities of use in sensory applications. The practical part of the work is focused on the design of a sensor based on the simplest type, namely a two-arm Mach-Zehnder interferometer suitable for non-invasive monitoring of respiratory and pulse activity of the human body. The next part describes the introduction to experimental measurement, especially focusing on respiratory activity, data evaluation, including the design of signal filtering methodology. The results of the work clearly confirm that the implemented sensor can be used to monitor selected vital functions of the human body.
