Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with fuel cell technology in the electric energy storage system. This includes the production and storage of hydrogen, present fuel cell applications, commercial systems and comparison with other types of electrical energy storage systems. A portion of this thesis includes measurement of accumulation hydrogen system TCO - Vítkovice, which includes five PEM fuel cell modules. Due to the suspicion of function deterioration of one of the modules, the measured values were compared with those of the fully functional fuel cell module. The electrical parameters that have been compared include electrical power, voltage, efficency and electrical energy. Non-electrical parameters include reaction gases consumption, temperature and heat power. Measured data confirms that the first module actually exhibits impaired parameters. The probable cause of the reduced power of the measured module is the damage to polymer membrane of the four fuel cells. The thesis also describes all differences between electrical and non-electrical parameters of measured and fully functional module, reveals defective fuel cells and determines the possible cause of their damage.
