Abstract
This thesis deals with the possibility of using LEDs in public lighting. The theoretical part is focused on the analysis of the characteristics and requirements for public lighting, as well as the history of the development of LEDs and it forecasts their increase in luminous efficacy in the future. In the pratrical part there was considered replacing high-pressure sodium lamps, which are now mostly used in public lighting lamp, for LED. Furthermore, the option of combining the use of lighting luminaires operating an island system. In both cases there is the calculated payback period. The thesis also contemplated the possibility of using the power thermobaterry with special converters that operate from voltages in the tens of millivolts. Two such converters have been developed, their characteristics are measured and documented. The only thermobaterry with such a converter is able to supply low-power devices from the temperature difference of one tenth of a degree Celsius.
