Abstract

This bachelor thesis is devoted to coal- fired power plant in Czech Republic, concretely to Karviná city where a company Veolia Česká republika, a.s. – Karviná Heating Plant is accommodating. The aim of this thesis is solving problem with an overloaded grid from backup power. Work is divided into two parts. First part is theoretical analysis of backup power UPS. Second part is practical which deals with mentioned company where the problem must be solved. In theoretical part are chapters like history, backup power UPS (name, principles, use and structure of UPS), stored energy for UPS, which contains mainly analysis of electrochemical accumulator but also a modern full cells or even super capacitors. It also highlights the key points when choosing UPS due to power, charge time or shape. Practical part discuss current status of heating plant, where were cooperated with employees. Cooperation was in the form of personal meetings and for obtaining additional information in the form of e-mails and telephone conversations. In this part is also mentioned how to perform or how was performed some of the battery testing. After long- lasting monitoring it was found that problem was in emergency lighting. Conclusion contains summary of solution which was approved by company.
