Abstract
Being the only clean, low-carbon, safe and effective way of producing energy, nuclear energy is gathering more and more traction in developed countries all over the world. This source of energy is gathering more attention from the point of view of the worldwide transformation of the energy sector. Following the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the international society formulated newer and higher demands towards the safety of nuclear energy. It is important to consider the subsequent implications to the exploitation of uranium deposits and securing enough fuel for the aforementioned power plants. [1]
In the introduction, the presented thesis recalls the history of the discovery of uranium-rich deposits and the subsequent mining of uranium ore in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. An important factor in the exploitation of the deposits is the selection of the appropriate mining method, to ensure efficient and economical mining activity. The main aim of the presented thesis is the evaluation of effectiveness and the health and safety aspects of the mining methods applied on the deposit Rožná near the village of Dolní Rožínka, and their impact on the surface.
