Abstract
This diploma thesis aims to determine the optimal mulling conditions of green sand
mixture for the newly introduced eddy mixer LM-3e in the sand laboratory at the Department
of Metallurgical Technologies, Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, VSB –
Technical University of Ostrava based on a comparison of this mixer with the existing mixer
LM – 2e. The theoretical part of the work deals with the issue of clay binder systems with
a specific focus on green sand mixture. It also deals with mulling and mulling equipment. The
experimental part of the work deals with the evaluation of the efficiency of these two mixers
and the determination of the optimal mulling parameters for the eddy mixer LM-3e, using
cumulative mulling and determining the properties of the mixtures at the mulling time. The
main monitored properties of mixtures are green compressive strength and toughness of the
mixture.
