Abstract

The Diploma Thesis deals with the preparation and testing of sorbent on the basis of polyurethane foam which is a refuse from insulation board production. The theoretical part describes the characteristics, classification, possible elimination and environmental impacts of oil substances. The polyurethane foam is hydrophobic and demonstrates a significant affinity to non-polar extractable substances. However, the polyurethane foam suspends in the air and also clings onto areas outside the area of application. From the practical point of view, it cannot be used in sorbents as such. Within experiments various admixtures able to eliminate the buoyancy of the polyurethane foam were tested. Sorptive capacity of selected sorbent samples was determined. Within the final experiments a sample bearing the best properties was selected, prepared and tested in order to eliminate diesel oil from firm surface and water level.
