Abstract
Presidency is very difficult task for EU Member States, its purpose is to determine the skills of each Member State to manage the operation of the European union (EU). Czech republic, as one of the new Member States, took the presidency in the period
1st January – 30th June 2009. Aim of the bachelor thesis is to describe the theoretical background of institutional structures of the EU and to characterize the institute of the EU presidency. Another aim is to explain the issues of the Czech republic presidency of the Council of the EU including preparations, priorities, implementation and evaluation of actual results.
The first chapter deals with the institutional structure of the EU. This chapter also defines the fundamentals of presidency, its functions and system operation. The second chapter is devoted to the Czech presidency of the Council of the EU, defines the trio presidency and identifies preparation and priorities of the presidency. The third chapter focuses on the evaluation of the Czech presidency, including the most important events in each month.
