Abstract
The diploma thesis is focused on efficiency in health care. The aim of this work is to evaluate the static and dynamic technical efficiency of the selected set of thirteen hospitals providing acute care for the period 2012 to 2016. Technical effectiveness is evaluated using an input-oriented DEA model assuming constant returns to scale and using Malmquist index. The selected set of units consists of medium-sized hospitals in legal form allowance organizations founded by region or municipalities, which provide primarily acute bed care and have a bed fund ranging from 294 to 510 beds. Two inputs (number of acute beds, average care time) and two outputs (percentage of using acute beds, number of hospitalized patients) were chosen for the evaluation of technical efficiency. The diploma thesis is structured in five chapters, including introduction and conclusion. The second chapter is the theoretical part dealing with bed care in the health care sector. The third chapter deals with efficiency and efficiency measurement models. The fourth chapter contains the evaluation of selected providers of acute bed care. In conclusion, the findings are summarized.
