Abstract

The main aim of the thesis is formation of the scale layer on the surface of iron and especially on the surface of stainless steel. The main attention in theoretical section is paid to the mechanism and kinetics of scale, composition and properties of the scale layer, then removing scale from the surface through the process of pickling (in acids, melts, electrolytes). Experimental section deals with the structure and properties of scale layer on stainless steel (AISI 316, AISI 430) after heat treatment and after pickling. Energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis was used to see the properties of scale layer of material.
