As urbanisation increases alongside population globally, the use of underground space will continue to be explored to deliver essential services across cities and communities. This will lead inevitably to further construction of shallow tunnels as well as microtunnels. Microtunnelling which is a trenchless construction method used in installation of pipelines. Its method of pipe installation involves a cycle of pipe jacking. We know that gravity sewer systems have commonly been installed using microtunneling in urban areas. As a result, there have been both positive and negative feedbacks regarding microtunnelling operation. Additionally, it is important to mention that, compared to big diameter TBM tunnelling, there are not as many studies on the ground settlement that results from microtunneling. In this dissertation, problems associated with large diameters are studied and real-life case study is modelled using FE analysis to determine the ground settlement predicted by the construction of a microtunnel. Assessment of building damage will be carried out to determine the safety of buildings and existing underground services.en
