Abstract

This batchelor thesis deals with the topic of casting iron in a cupola furnace. Introduction is dedicated to the historical development of cupola furnaces, later it focuses on brief characteristics of grey cast iron and describes the construction of cold-blast and hot-blast cupola furnaces. The core comprises of two chapters in which the proces of fuel combustion is described, along with the change in chemical composition of cast iron and the possibilities of intensifying the melting process.
