Abstract

This barchelor thesis is focused on the application of permanent magnets based on Nd-Fe-B in the automotive and transport industry, which currently represent the strongest types of magnets. Sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets have a very high coercive force Hc and energy product (BH)max which is about ten times higher than in the case of the magnets based on ferrites, which allows minimizing the size of products and cost reduction. Operating temperature of magnets can be up to 230 °C. The disadvantage, however, is their poor corrosion resistence, therefore the surface of magnets must be provided by a suitable coating (Zn, Ni, Ag, Au, epoxide, etc.). The thesis is based both on the literature review specified issues, including basic concepts of magnetism substances, the individual process steps in the manufacture of isotropic and anisotropic magnets and their applications, and also contains the practical part, focused on the chemical and structural analysis of three commercially available permanent magnets based on Nd-Fe-B.
