Abstract

THE LISBON STRATEGY AND ITS EVALUATION

The aim of the thesis is to present and evaluate The Lisbon Strategy as an important strategy of the EU focused on competitiveness and economic growth.

The second chapter, called The Lisbon Strategy, explains the reasons for its creation and characterizes its main pillars: Economic Pillar, Social Pillar and Environmental Pillar. It describes co-operation of EU institutions and member states. The second chapter also talks about a midterm reform that was done by EU institutions in 2005.

The third chapter of this work, called The Lisbon Strategy Evaluation, is fully focused on evaluation of LS. Specifically, the LS is analyzed from the point of view of the European Commission, the World Economic Forum and mainly structural indicators connected with Lisbon criteria.

The fourth chapter, called The Lisbon Strategy and the Czech Republic, is dedicated to the characterization of implementation of LS in the Czech Republic from its beginning up to this moment. The Czech Republic’s results are compared to EU-27 and USA in the period 2000-2007.

The results of my thesis could signalize in which way the EU will go in the future in connection with „Strategy 2020“.
