Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to explain the working priciple of the life locator and to verify the hit rate under conditions where it could be used in real world. I performed a series of tests representing various real-world conditions. An external wall was used, which simulates through-the-wall searching in partially ruined buildings. Then a heap of waste rock was used, which simulates a totally ruined building. Testing was also performed on a reinforced concrete ceiling. This scenario can represent a ruined building of reinforced concrete. The statistical hit rate for each situation was calculated from the collected data. The statistics should help the fire brigades in deciding whether the life locator would be suitable to use in the given emergency condition.
