Abstract

The subject of this diploma thesis is the design of a Museum of Contemporary Art on Rohanský Island in Prague – Karlín. The building is situated in a developing urban area between Invalidovna Park and the planned Maniny Park, in close proximity to the Vltava River. The aim of the thesis is to create a space for contemporary art exhibitions that will become a cultural center of the newly emerging urban district and at the same time as a place open to the general public. The museum is intended not only as a venue for presenting current artistic production, but also as a place for meeting. The proposal also includes the design of the adjoining public space, which connects the Invalidovna area with the riverfront in direct relation to the Vltava River.
