Abstract

The bachelor thesis deals with gathering GPS data and information from users applicable to calculate fuel consumption of motor vehicles. In the thesis historical events, that have led to development of navigation systems, are introduced. Further, there are elaborated principles of communication and Global Positioning System division. Communications protocol NMEA is also presented. The application (program) for measuring the consumption was created in ,,Microsoft Visual Studio 2008“ (software) with the C# programming language. The application is designated for devices using the operation system Windows Mobile. It was tested on PDA Fujitsu Siemens N560 with integrated GPS module Sirf Star III. The application reckons the consumption from fuel quantity in litres (entered by user) and distance moved (in kilometres) that is figured out from loaded position data of GPS module. This information is subsequently saved into SQL database.
