Abstract

The theme of the thesis is the significance and usage of one of the most precious mineral - amber. The first chapter describes the general characteristics of amber, its definition, chemical and physical properties. Fursthermore is treated the mining of amber, which is most developed in Kaliningrad region, where about 90% of worlds amber deposit is located. In earlier ages, amber was seeked for a jewelcrafting. Specialized voyages were organized through which arose Abmer Trail, main amber import path from north to other countries. Aside from jewellcraft amber was also used for production of smoker's requisites, succinic acid and an amber oil. Among the most notable amber product belongs the Amber Room, its replica is located at Catherine Palace, but original is yet to be found.
