Abstract
Thesis presents the outcomes of the verification of waterworks sludge usage for phosphorus removal from wastewater in the municipal wastewater treatment plant as well as secondary utilization of this sludge in agriculture. Recent knowledge in the field of waterworks sludges – to which much less attention is given than to those of wastewater treatment origin – is hereby summarized too. Research of the possibilities of waterworks sludge utilization proceeded in two ways – both by focusing on the sorption capabilities of waterworks sludge and improvement of soil agronomic properties with the sludge. Research was carried out using chemical methods and, in laboratory conditions, verified positive sorption capabilities of the sludge in the sense of decreasing the amount of phosphates in the wastewater. To verify the utilization of sorption capabilities of waterworks sludge, the sludge in question was tested not only on the model line of phosphate solutions but on the wastewater from the wastewater treatment plant as well. Such wastewater is, among other things, rich in phosphorus which is undesirable nutrient according to the legislation of Czech Republic about permissible concentrations of nutrients in the wastewater issue to the recipient. Part of the testing was determination of mineralogical composition of the sludge.
