Abstract

Spontaneous combustion of coal occurs when its temperature cross „the critical temperature“, which usually takes 5 weeks in a case of hard coal and 4 weeks in a case of brown coal. After that moment a temperature increases sharply. This process is accompanied with a releasing of characteristic indicator gases. The aim of this dissertation was to determine characteristic indicator gases of brown coal spontaneous combustion. Determination of the characteristic indicator gases was in this case based on the laboratory method of thermal oxidation TEPOX. Coal samples of about 2-3 kg have beet periodically taken from brown coal store piles and were sent to laboratory analysis. Results obtained primarily from laboratory analysis and sampling of indicator gases monitored in situ have been evaluated and interpreted graphically. The characteristic indication gases of the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin are defined in this dissertation thesis.
