Abstract

This bachelor thesis is focused on the optimization of an already existing friction composite mixture. The decision was made, after careful consideration, that the modification would be done by replacing a certain amount of one of the current solid lubricants with a hexagonal boron nitride, h-BN. Overall, four mixtures were made. The mixtures were then properly homogenised and sintered. After sintering, the friction-wear properties testing on the industrial partner’s testing machine took place. For mixtures with an h-BN additive, an increase of coefficient of friction was observed and the wear was very similar as for the standard mixture. This means that certain improvement has been achieved. Furthermore from the colouring of the already tested samples can be observed that the standard mixture has been much more overheated than new mixtures.
