Abstract
The thesis deals with the design of a bomb calorimeter. In the introduction, the thesis deals with the description of simple chemical and physical reactions in which we can measure the energy transferred by calorimetry. In the following part, the thesis discusses different types of calorimeters and their applications. For most of the types of calorimeters mentioned,
an example of a calorimeter that is commonly used in practice is then given.
In the practical part of the thesis, the design of the calorimeter and the electrical components needed for the measurement is presented. The work is elaborated in such detail that it is possible to assemble the calorimeter according to these instructions and repeat
the measurements, or work with it in other extended applications. The aim of this work, therefore, has been to design and build a calorimeter with which it will be possible to make measurements of the energy released when different types of initiators are used,
and to determine the procedure for the measurements. The thesis concludes with suggestions for improvements to the device and how the calorimeter could be modified to enable more accurate results to be obtained in subsequent measurements.
