Abstract
Automation increasingly benefits from the changing face of the industry. The fourth industrial revolution denotes a typical trend of modernization and automation of individual workplaces and equipment. As part of the modernization of the bloom continuous casting machine at the Třinecké železárny, a.s., (TŽ), the electromechanical oscillating mechanism has been recently replaced by a modern hydraulic oscillating mechanism from the company Danieli. However, due to the implemented modernization interventions, it was necessary to solve other important aspects associated with the control of continuous casting technology, such as the functionality of the anti-breakout system (so-called DGS), the exploitation of which from started in 2000 based on the analysis of a digital signal from the cardan shaft. This signal, by switching to the new hydraulic cylinder drive technology, was no longer available for calculation in the breakout prediction system, and therefore it was necessary to develop a new way of evaluating the breakout alarm. The new anti-breakout system is called. However, this change provided also new challenges on how to improve the existing control system of the continuous casting process to meet the requirements required by the industry 4.0 concept. As part of the research, a new digital 3-axis accelerometer for diagnostics of the oscillating mechanism was also tested. It is supposed that the newly developed accelerometer will be also greatly beneficial in the future to realize further progress of the existing prediction system, which is currently based on friction force change during continuous casting of steel. The system is able to fully automatically generate adequate interventions in the process of continuous casting based on the detected events in the crystallizer.
