Abstract
Very interesting environment with smaller water bodies, which is preferred by amphibians was created at currently abandoned sand quarry Erika. Sand quarry is of great geological importance, it is place of occurrence of the Tertiary fossils, especially leaves of subtropical trees. It represents probe into the Starosedelské souvrství, the oldest Tertiary strata in Sokolov basin of top-Eocene age, with possible overlap to the lowermost Oligocene. Fill Formation consists mainly from kaolin clays, sands, sandstones, gravels and conglomerates of thickness of about 40m. Sedimentation proceeded by deposition from river flows, which had flew into shallow lakes. Most of the sediments were deposited already before end of the Eocene. Numerous fossils of Eocene flora of the evergreen forests of the subtropical belt know already since 18th century can be found there. Those findings originate mainly from sandstone and quartzite. This under OBÚ Sokolov is located in the mining area number 866 named Týn u Lomnice, and from core drilling exploration was concluded that there is unexcavated sand deposit, which was proposed to be depreciated by Sokolovská uhelná, právní nástupce, a.s., The purpose of this thesis is assessment and evaluation of the deposit with option of possible excavation.
