Abstract
My thesis deals with the coal mining of hard coal in Ostravsko-Karvinský coal district from its beginning until these days. The geology of the Czech part of the Upper silesian basin has been worked out. Ostravské and Karvinské stratums and its layers have been described. Other part deals with active coal mines especially Mine Karviná, Mine Darkov, Mine ČMS and Mine Paskov. The last topic is focused on the negative impact of the mining activity to the landscape and restoration possibilities.
