Abstract
For several years now, the use of semiconductor light sources with a luminescent layer, primarily white electroluminescent diodes (LEDs), has been growing rapidly. Luminescent layers have been used for a long time in fluorescent lamps and were also part of old CRT (cathode-ray tube) screens. Recently, however, there has been an enormous boom caused mainly by the discovery of blue LEDs. It has become a commonly available component since 1990, and its parameters are continually being improved. At present, incandescent and fluorescent lights are primarily replaced by semiconductor sources with a luminescent layer. With their expansion, the idea of using these semiconductor sources not only for lighting purposes but also for the transmission of information emerged. Therefore, light sources that are supposed to fulfill this dual role must be examined in light and communication properties. These parameters are fundamentally affected by the luminescent layer used. For this reason, this dissertation deals with the research of the influence of selected luminescent layers on the light and communication properties of the light generated by these layers.
